New Students

Thank you for inquiring about Music To My Ears. We offer beginner lessons, each session the basics are taught.  We teach the children all about their instrument, proper posture, how to read music, how to play notes, rhythm, and beginner songs. The only requirements are that the student can read, they have access to their instrument for practice, and they buy the beginner book their teacher uses.  This is a program for children with no prior music education and children are only eligible for one session, so please decide if this is the year they will get the most out of the lessons. The student can remain on the waiting list until placed.

Before you commit your child to the program, please consider these additional things, so we have a successful year and you have reasonable expectations of what your child will learn. As with other music programs, there is a weekly commitment to lessons and a daily commitment to practice. To be able to play songs at the end of the 9 month session, your child must be attentive and able to sit through a weekly 30 minute lesson and commit to 15 to 20 minutes of practice 5 days a week.  If not, it may be worthwhile waiting until your child can, so they do not become disappointed and disillusioned with the instrument.  Musical instrument lessons are challenging, and to play songs well, the student must practice in order to build physical skills and to develop the memorization songs require to be successfully played.

If your child decides to take lessons, I will talk to you to place your child with the right teacher. You will then be contacted directly by the teacher to set up a time that is good for both of you, same day and time every week. This session will start in September 2016 and will go until the end of May 2017. We follow the school calendar for days off and breaks.

In order to reach as many children in the community as possible, students can only attend for one session.
